Charles Leslie (1839-1886) - A Highland landscape

I am offering for auction a superb 19th century oil on canvas of a Highland landscape under moonlight, by listed artist Charles Leslie, 1835-1890. Signed and dated 1879 bottom left. The painting measures 78 x 42 cm. The frame is 93 x 57 cm. Condition of the painting is good. Please view all photos for accurate condition. Relined. Later frame. Fully restored. Ready to hang. Charles Leslie was a member of the Williams family of painters who were widely known during the 19th-century. His grandfather, Edward Williams (1781–1855), was an accomplished landscape painter and all six of his sons became artists. Perhaps to differentiate himself, Charles opted to focus on the Scottish and Welsh moorlands where he produced a great deal of his work. His landscapes often portray stark mountains and still waters. Leslie exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the Royal Society of British Artists. He’s currently represented in several museums including the National Library of Wales, the Royal Holloway Museum at the University of London and the Victoria Museum and Gallery in Liverpool. Please note. Due to the fragile nature of old frames and glass, our shippers do not provide insurance for any damage caused during transit. We go to great lengths to ensure each painting is packed and protected to a very high standard but sadly cannot compensate or refund for any damage occurring to frames or glass during transit. Therefore the frame and any glass is a gift to you with zero value and you are bidding on the artwork only. Due to Brexit, there are delays at EU customs borders though the situation is improving. Please do not blame me for delays or any customs duty payable. I really appreciate your understanding and patience. Steve.
