Western Asiatic Gold Pendant with Garnet Inlays (No Reserve Price)
A fine Western Asiatic bifacial pendant, featuring gold sheets moulded into three triangular cells arranged in two rows, one on the top and two at the bottom. Each cell is inset with a garnet inlay on both sides of the pendant. The corners of the piece are decorated with a gold granule. A tubular gold loop has been added to the top for suspension.
Tiny beads like this piece were used to decorate larger jewellery pieces, which would indicate the wearer's status and wealth. Various materials were used within the creation of Western Asiatic jewellery. Gold and semi-precious stones, like garnet, were commonly used. Garnet is thought to be a stone associated with love and friendship and is identifiable by its deep red and shiny texture.
