Above, the robust blooms that resemble Magnolia kobus herald the onset of spring with their purity and resilience. Flip the screen to reveal a bustling narrative of nature on the other side. Each panel is a vignette of life and growth: sparrows perched on the branches of camellia and rose bushes, a favorite in traditional Japanese symbolism for the divine and the transient beauty of life, respectively. Also depicted is the Magnolia denudata, a tree revered for its early-blooming flowers, symbolizing nobility and perseverance.
