A striking illuminated leaf from what we believe to be Chapter 97 Sūrat An-Qadr (The Night of Glory), rescued from a badly damaged Qur'an dating back to AD1700 with elements of Persian and North Indian decorative calligraphy. This Chapter of the Qur'an celebrates the glorious night the Qur'an was revealed, which is beleived to the the night of Ramadan 27, 610 C.E. it is the night when the angels and Holy Spirit descend by the permission of the Lord, for every decreed matter. The leaf consists of three Surah headings in bold Muhaqqaq script and two blocks of scripture each of 6 lines in Muhaqqaq, which are flanked with wonderful celestial blue and floral arabesque columns. There are simple gold aya marking the verses and diacritical (devotional marks) in red guiding the reader and the occasional gold lettering. To the right of top Surah are 'petalled' Juz gold marking the Chapter with gold lettering within this elaborate marginal decoration. Each of the passages of scripture is framed with simple black and red lines, while the whole is framed with a more complex series of five (5) frame lines consiting of black, gold, red and finally a dark blue line. The condition is very good for its age with only the occasional staining. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself.
