William Anslow Thornley (1830-1898) - Sunset in the harbour
Sunset in the harbour, by William Anslow Thornley ( 1830-1898). A coastal scene by a well know painter famous for his coastal scene's with a spectacular light effects. The painting shows the atmosphere at dusk, when fishermen bring in their nets. Thornley shows himself a master in depicting the falling of the evening at the coast. Signed lower right. Oil on relined canvas in an antique frame. The canvas measures 41 x 26 cm, including the frame 53 x 37 cm.
Thornley exhibited on various salons in Paris notably in 1881 and 1888 and won there several prices with his work.
