This eloquent Japanese hanging scroll presents a 20th-century calligraphic interpretation of the haiku "若竹や暁の雨宵の雨" (Wakatake ya ake no ame yoi no ame), translated as "Young bamboo in the morning and evening rain", originally composed by the Edo-period haiku master, Yosa Buson. While Buson is counted among the pantheon of Japan’s greatest haiku poets, alongside Matsuo Basho and Kobayashi Issa, the artist who rendered this particular calligraphy remains unknown despite the presence of their unique seal. Their work, however, does pay fitting homage to Buson’s poetic vision, capturing the essence and sensitivity of the verse through the medium of brush and ink. The haiku's characters are scribed with controlled vitality, set against a richly patterned background that evokes the natural elements referenced in the poem. The piece bears the artist’s seal in the lower left, adding an element of mystery to the work’s provenance. Crafted with wooden scroll ends, the scroll marries traditional aesthetic with an enduring literary spirit. Please note the scroll shows slight signs of aging, including slight wear and minor spots, which add to its antique charm. Prospective buyers should examine the photos carefully to appreciate the condition of this unique piece. Overall Dimensions: approx. H 151 cm W 28 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos. However, due to differences in monitors and device displays, as well as photographic conditions, slight color variations between the photos and the actual product may occur.
