kimono 大島紬 Oshima Tsumugi, Japanese ikat - Silk - Japan - Showa/Heisei period

DESCRIPTION Oshima tsumugi is a textile produced mainly on Amami Oshima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture. It is a traditional Japanese craft with a long history of about 1,300 years. Oshima tsumugi, created through many processes, is supple and strong, and is said to be worn as a kimono for 150 to 200 years. The fabric, which took a lot of time and effort, is only recognized as authentic Oshima tsumugi after passing strict inspections by the local associations of each production area. Mud dyeing(泥染め) is a natural dyeing method practiced only on Amami Oshima Island in the world. The tannin acid pigment contained in the Sharinbai (a plant of the rose family) and iron (ferric oxide) in the mud are chemically combined over 85 times on the silk threads to dye them a deep, lustrous, and austere black color that does not fade. The beautiful luster of silk is of animal origin, the softness of sharinbai dyeing is of vegetable origin, and the iron content makes it a strong fiber with all three characteristics of mineral origin. The soft and moist texture of Amami Oshima Tsumugi can be inherited by parents and children for three generations. Good condition. Length: 160cm Width, including sleeves: 128 cm NOTICE The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
