A painter of the Mori School. He was known as the "円山応挙 Maruyama Okyo of the Meiji era" for his mild and emotional painting style. He pursued a brushwork style rich in elegance that incorporated a variety of ink expressions and pursued a realistic expression that went beyond mere sketching.
