Printed there to avoid prosecution by British authorities. In the Uk it was banned as obscene. Lady Chatterley's lover was a controversial text upon its initial release and had to be heavily censored. Penguin books first published the unexpurgated edition in Britain in 1960 which led to the infamous trial of Penguin under the Obscene Publications act of 1959.
