Large 4to. (26.1 x 18.8 cm). 361 pp., 13 tissue-guarded photographic plates. Broken spine /pages loose. A well-illustrated work by the Brazilian botanist and director of the botanical garden of Rio de Janeiro, João Barbosa Rodrigues (1842-1909). This work includes the description and illustration of several palm species. The title page is dated 1893, but according to the British Museum catalogue it was published in 1894. Tissue-guards with printed explanatory text. Pages a bit age-toned, a few a bit shorter at the foot; tissue guards somewhat spotted, spine broken, some pages loose. Very rare copy!
