【Product details】
Step into the enchanting world of Showa-era craftsmanship with this captivating collection of 12 creative Kokeshi dolls, including eight by the distinguished Satou Suigai. With a legacy originating in Taisho 9 (1920) in Gunma Prefecture, Suigai was an adept student of Japanese painting under Komuro Suiun and later a renowned Kokeshi artist, with his own workshop 'Sui Getsu' established in Showa 28 (1953).
Renowned for his artistry, Satou Suigai’s dolls have garnered several prestigious awards such as the Tokyo Governor’s Award (Showa 33/1958) and the Prime Minister's Award (Showa 41/1966), alongside honors in the All-Gunma Modern Kokeshi Contest.
Among this delightful assemblage, the eight dolls marked with Suigai's signature echo his artistic vision, while the remaining four are charming creations from other artisans, contributing to the diversity of the set. Each doll embodies the simplicity and warmth that Kokeshi dolls are known for, adorned with hand-painted details and varying expressions.
Though these treasured pieces display signs of wear, including minor scratches and stains indicative of their historical journey, they maintain a charm that only authentic, time-honored pieces can offer. Please refer to the photographs for conditions.
