A bi-folio rescued from an early but damaged C19th Koran, scribed in Kashmir. We believe this bi-folio to be from Chapter 42, Ash Shura (Consultation), which talks about conducting affairs by mutual consultation as one of the qualities of true believers, where believers are commanded to resort to God's judgement if disagreement arises. The left folio contains a very nicely illuminated Surah in blue script within a gold cartouche and arabesque dressings on a celestial blue background, and 10 (ten) lines of beautifully scripted naskh in a firm hand. The right folio contains with 11 (eleven) of scripture with plain gold aya marking the verses and some diacritical advisory markings in red. The verses are scribed within a rectangular box surrounded by solid gold trim, with several plain gold roundels marking out the verses and devotional markings in red. The marginal decoration is a simple device. A neat gold and red floral device embellishes the corners top left and top right of the folios. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
