PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s). 2021 Quinta da Boavista Vinha do Levante Grande Reserva White 3 x 0.75L DESCRIPTION Located near Pinhão, on the right bank of the Douro river, Quinta da Boavista has an extraordinary view over the river. It is one of the most iconic estates in the demarcated region, known not only for its historical connection with the Baron of Forrester, but also for its 36 hectares of high-quality vines. It is also the birthplace of a series of impressive indigenous grape varieties and several old vine parcels, twisted by the time, that present low yields but exceptional quality grapes that allow the production of the best Port and still wines. In the old vines, those grape variety were commonly planted together in order to produce natural batches with high complexity and richness. Currently, they are separately planted with the 5 most currently used being Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão Quinta da Boavista’s 36 ha of vineyards are spread over a dazzling geometric setting of terraces built by hand and supported by small schist walls, which is typical of the region. Some of the terraces are almost eight meters high, and this, along with the extreme climate and dramatic steep slopes, provides a unique terroir. The estate is well preserved, kept rigorously as a fine example of the Douro’s typical beauty. WINEMAKERS: Jean-Claude Berrouet & Ricardo Macedo. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 17.5 Points, Market Choice Award, Vinho Grandes Escolhas (2020 Vintage) WINE VARIETIES: Arinto & Viosinho. VINIFICATION We started picking the Viosinho variety in the third week of August and the Arinto variety three days later. All grapes were handpicked into small crates of 17kg and then taken to the winery, where they remained in the refrigerating chambers until the following morning. Viosinho grapes were selected on the sorting tables, destemmed and then pressed. Afterwards, they were fermented in new and used French oak barrels. The Arinto grapes were similarly sorted on the tables, slightly destemmed and then macerated with skins on over 24 hours before being pressed. The wine then fermented in stainless-steel vats up until almost the end of the process, before being transferred to new and used barrels, where it finished fermenting. Both wines aged in barrels. The final blend was produced in November the year after the harvest – the first ever blend of Quinta da Boavista white wine. TASTING NOTES The citric, crystal colour of this wine is mesmerising when you swirl it around the glass. Clear and unctuous, it slowly releases notes of pulp-white fruit wrapped in aromas of fresh herbs, strengthening gracefully over time. The mouth reveals genuine freshness and amplitude, inciting the palate at every gulp and enthralling the senses. Elegant and bold, this is a wine full of soul. SERVING Perfect with fat fish, seafood and cheese dishes. Serve at a temperature between 12ºC and 14ºC.
