Curt Frankenstein (1922–2009) - Encounter

Good impression on thick paper. Condition is good. Some creases. Some surface dirt. Painter and a print maker Curt Frankenstein was born in Hannover, Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1947, and ultimately established his studio in Wilmette, Illinois. He studied at The American Academy of Art in Chicago; The Art Institute of Chicago, where he studied under Max Kahn; and the Otis Art institute in Los Angeles. In addition, Frankenstein studied etching with Heidi Bak at Studio 22 in Chicago. Long intrigued by Surrealism, he produced a body of paintings and prints that explored the interplay of fantasy and reality, exploring familiar images in ways that revealed their contradictions and deeper meanings. Well established as a Midwestern regional artist, Frankenstein was the recipient of numerous awards and prizes including First prize for painting, Illinois State Fair, Springfield, 1967; Municipal Art league prize Art Institute Chicago, 1963; Purchase award Minnesota Museum Art, Minneapolis, 1980; and The Award of Excellence, Municipall Art League of Chicago, 1998. His work is held by numerous public and private institutions. (Source: https://brierhillgallery.com/)
