This rare vintage Kokeshi, crafted by the renowned Ryouka Aoki 青木蓼華 (b1931-), showcases minimalistic artistry, maximizing the use of natural wood. Artist: Ryouka Aoki (青木蓼華) Born in 1931 in Gunma Prefecture. Learned Japanese painting from Ryoushu Nozawa 野沢蓼州, received the character "蓼" (Ryou) as a gift, and adopted the name Ryouka. Started creating original kokeshi dolls around 1958. Received purchases of 8 works from the Crown Prince (at that time) and Princess Michiko (at that time) in 1975 and 1983. Designated as a Traditional Craftsman of Gunma Prefecture in 2000. Major Awards: Received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Encouragement Award in 1975 at the National Modern Kokeshi Exhibition. Received the Minister of International Trade and Industry Award and numerous other awards at the All Japan Kokeshi Competition. Received the Prime Minister's Award twice at the All Gunma Modern Kokeshi Competition, among numerous other awards. Dimensions : 18 × 7.5 × 7.5 cm Weight : 260 g With a cushion Good condition.
