Dedicated to the island of Guernsey, this novel is set just after the Napoleonic Wars and explores the impact that the Industrial Revolution had on the island. Hugo spent fifteen years in exile on Guernsey, being sent to exile due to his political stances. Whilst on Guernsey he published his famous political pamphlets against Napoleon III. Condition. Good.
