WINERY
The wine estate was founded at the end of the 19th century when Emidio Pepe, grandfather of the current name bearer, found the ideal terroir in the hills around Torano. Here he would grow the two main grape varieties from Abruzzo. In 1944, his son Giuseppe was already famous for the quality of his bulk wine (vino sfuso). Another 20 years later it was his grandson who inherited the vineyards and bottled the first white Trebbiano d'Abruzzo and red Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Since 1964, Emidio Pepe has become the symbol of territorial expression and wines with a long lifespan in Abruzzo and far beyond, thanks to Emidio's empirical and tireless efforts.
His wife gave him three daughters and all these years the domain has remained in the hands of the family without touching the traditions or the past. Today it is daughters Daniele and Sofia, assisted by their niece Chiara, who put into practice the secrets learned from their parents in order to preserve the natural heritage. Long before the approach became a fashion phenomenon or was certified by an institutional stamp, they were already working organically. The wine estate currently owns 15 hectares of vineyard, cultivated according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. Emidio Pepe wines are known to age beautifully in the bottle and it is only right that the winery is considered one of Abruzzo's best.
