Vase - A Shino vase by the fifth generation Kosaburo of Kikyoya Kiln - Japan (No Reserve Price)

This is a Shino vase by the fifth generation Kosaburo of Kikyoya Kiln. This is a Shino ware vase, characterized by an overall rough, white texture. It features a design that appears to be inspired by delicate plum blossoms. Additionally, though not easily discernible in the photo, the allure of Shino ware lies in its tactile quality. The texture and fresh patterns reminiscent of the first snowfall are traditional in Japan and have been cherished since the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Shino ware is a type of Mino ware, representing Gifu Prefecture, which was originally produced during the Azuchi-Momoyama period as one of the Oribe wares. It is characterized by applying a generous amount of white feldspathic glaze (Shino glaze) to a thick-bodied clay and firing it. The application of a silky white glaze was a first in Japanese pottery. Kikyoya Kiln has been operating since the late Edo period, producing and selling traditional, rustic-style pieces.
