Jingasa(陣笠) used mainly by foot soldiers and other military personnel in camp(陣) since the Muromachi period. It was made of thin copper or leather, coated with lacquer, and used as a substitute for a helmet. This was a lacquered kasa(笠) with a warped outer rim used during the Edo period (1603-1867), and was used by samurai on outings. The cord preventing it from falling is made of silk stuffed with cotton. Due to its age, the cord shows damage.
