Model: Ferrari Hydroplane Arno X1 Length: approximately 75 cm. The Ferrari Hydroplane comes complete with a display stand. Handmade model of wood, with metal details. In the early 1960s, Nando Dell'Orto, the famous powerboat racer, decided to mount a 12 cylinder Ferrari engine on a 3-point hydroplane hull. The hull design was made by Timossi shipyards, developed in 1953 for the 800 kg inboard class with an engine specially prepared by Rinaldo, better known as “the wizard”. The hull structure, with solid wooden trusses and skin of waterproof plywood, was both flexible and strong enough to withstand the forces during racing. The 12-cylinder, 4500 ccs, V12 Ferrari engine that also powered by Formula 1 cars, achieved a world speed record on the water on 15 October 1953 on Lake Iseo with Achille Castoldi behind the wheel. The phenomenal record speed of 241.708 km/h is still untouched to this day by a boat of the same class. The hood and tail fin, painted in Ferrari red with the famous prancing horse logo, quickly became synonymous with pure power. Condition: In Very Good condition and ready for display. Arno XI is a hydroplane conceived by Achille Castoldi. Designed to break water speed records, it was first built between 1952 and 1953 by the Cantiere Timossi boatyard, located in Azzano on the shores of Lake Como. A collectable and appreciating display ornament for the Ferrari Owner or Enthusiast. Worldwide Delivery is via Tracked and Insured Courier service.
