Seljuk Pottery Oil Lamps (3) Circa 12th-13th century AD This nice collection presents three pottery oil lamps, each featuring a deep, hollow body with a projecting spout, a sizable filler hole, and a D-shaped handle with a decorative thumb rest. All of these lamps are decorated in a cream glaze embellished with splashes of brown, green, and blue hues. The Seljuks, a medieval Turkic dynasty, played a significant role in shaping the history of the Islamic world. Emerging in the 11th century AD, the Seljuks originated from the steppes of Central Asia. The dynasty began with Tughril Beg, establishing its dominion across a vast territory, including parts of Anatolia, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
