Iacobi Trew Nicolaus Fridericus Eisenbergerus Norimbergae Typis Christiani De Launoy ANNO MDCCLVII In a half leather folder of the time, text sheets unbound, 46 sheets with 92 pages of text, engraved, hand-colored title page and 55 of 100 engraved plates Elizabeth Blackwell (ca. 1700-1770) was a botanical illustrator best known as drawer and engraver of the plates for" A Curious Herbal", published between 1737 and 1739. It illustrated medicinal plants in a reference work for the use of physicians and apothecaries. The first printing of "A Curious Herbal" met moderate success, because of the meticulous quality of the illustrations and the great need for an updated herbal. Physicians and apothecaries acclaimed the work, and it received a commendation from the Royal College of Physicians. A second edition was printed 20 years later in a revised and enlarged format in Nuremberg by Dr. Christoph Jacob Trew, a botanist and physician, between 1757 and 1773 (Wikipedia) Sheet dimensions approx. 38 x 25,5 cm Magnificent, detailed plant representations.
