Sewing box - Inlaid wood (walnut), bronze, iron

A very rare Central European, most probably German or Polish, inlaid wooden sewing box. Germany (Poland?), first half 18th century, richly inlaid with different kinds of wood. Soft wood (pine?) construction inlaid with walnut, ebony and other veneers, box of rectangular shape, with sloping flap, in the center a needle cushion, sides with inlaid wind (compass) roses, front with gilt bronze mount. Supported on four legs. Interior painted in light blue. Original forged hinges. Original lock made of wrought iron, with a key. Dimensions: height - 20,1 cm; width - 28,4 cm; depth - 21 cm. Conditions report: very good condition, considering over 250 year old item. Traces of old restorations, few small pieces of veneer missing, minor traces of wood-worms activity, wood drying crack to the top (not visible from outside) and to the base, one leg probably later, age- and use-related wear. Finished traditional way, with hand-applied varnish (schellack). Check pictures for details. Worldwide delivery with online tracking!
