Encre et gouache sur papier - Sublime! https://www.imago-images.de/search?archiv=on&suchtext=Kozminski Jan Ksawery Koźmiński (1892-1940), known also as Xawery Jan Koźmiński-Poraj, was a Polish illustrator and painter. He received his basic education in art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, however his studies were interrupted by the outbreak of the World War 1 during which he served in the 1st Krechowce Uhlan Regiment. After the war he spent a few years in Paris where he continued his studies at the Académie Colarossi and Académie de la Grande Chaumière, and worked as an arts correspondent for the Polish press. In Poland he also wrote essays on not only the arts but also on literature. Between 1919-1939 he illustrated a total of over 70 books and created numerous artworks, sometimes using pseudonyms of Jean de Poray, Lelek, or Zygmunt Szron. He specialized in illustrative art and caricatures, and his favourite media were ink, gouache and watercolor. After the outbreak of the World War 2 the artist was arrested by the attacking Germans, and then executed at the beginning of the year 1940, sharing the fate of many other educated Poles seen as dangerous by the Nazi regime. Most of his works were lost during the war, or are kept in private collections. #gallerycorner
