This is an antique Japanese geisha lithophane tea service consisting of 10 cups & saucers, a teapot, a lidded milk jug and lidded sugar bowl. The maker’s mark is CFC Japan & it most likely dates to pre WW2, probably the 1930s. If the cups are held up to the light, a lithophane of a Garland geisha girl is visible inside on the bottom of the fine eggshell cup. This service has a particularly detailed & beautiful lithophane, and is hand painted with a design of geishas. It is in excellent condition for its age with no chips or cracks with little or no wear. The teapot handle has 2 small areas of gilt wear (see photo) & a tiny area of gilt wear on the teapot lid (see photo). Saucer diameter 13cm, teacup diameter 9cm & teapot is 20cm high to top of lid.
