Jan Koen Lomans - Dirwedd (Landscape)

Wall hanging supplied with brass hanging system. Dirwedd - 15 year’s anniversary Studio JKL in collaboration with the University of Wales TSD. 'Dirwedd' Meaning- Landscape, reality, relief... In the '15 year's Anniversary’ project the artist used all the samples he gained from former projects and autonomous tapestry series in the last 15 years. He asked the students of UWTSD to recreate new works from the samples. Inspired by the Welsh beach of Caswell Bay, students of UWTSD have created a series of collaborative textile pieces in coordination with artist Jan Koen Lomans, utilising lengths of weave from his tapestry archive. Setting the scene, the large tapestry depicts the waves crashing against the barnacle engulfed rocks of the Bay, leaving traces of sea foam across the shore. The sea meets a mountainous skyline within a cloud laden sky as inlays of golden thread highlight the forms. Coordinating pieces detail a series of tactile explorations of the natural world. Textile lengths have been deconstructed and reused to make entirely new creations, mirroring the ripples of waves and sea foam crashing upon the shore. Certificate will be send with the artwork. Bio Jan Koen Lomans is an interdisciplinary visual artist working with nature as a contemplative motive for his research and collaboration projects. He depicts this theme in a range of ways, by making it tangible in artwork and installations. Jan Koen Lomans (Rotterdam, 1978) studied at the Academy of Arts St. Joost in Breda and Den Bosch and graduated in 2006. He lives and works in Utrecht. Work by Lomans has previously been exhibited at international art fairs as Pulse Miami, Ventura Dubai and Masterly Milano. And by museums as Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Centraal Museum and KAdE Amersfoort, amongst others. His artworks are created on commission or acquired by governmental departments, companies, collectors and private individuals, nationally and internationally. In 2023 Lomans was invited to make a permanent sculpture at the campus of the Delft University of Technology. The sculpture will be installed end of 2024.
