It’s housed in a custom-made wooden box. This antique ensemble features a flask and serving pieces beautifully adorned using maki-e and nashiji techniques on black lacquer wood. Maki-e is a distinctive Japanese lacquerware decoration that involves sprinkling gold or silver powder over wet lacquer to create intricate designs, while nashiji, named after the skin of a pear, gives a textured shimmering effect using gold flakes that enhances the visual depth. The flask is artistically detailed with chrysanthemums, representing longevity and rejuvenation, and mountains, symbolizing steadfastness. Geometric patterns throughout the set signify continuity. Accompanying the flask are five serving plates and a tray, each showcasing vibrant vermillion lacquer interiors that contrast with the black lacquer on the underside. The tray features cherry blossoms, a poignant reminder of life’s transience. The set includes a condiment container and a four-tiered jubako (food box), both adorned with cherry blossoms for beauty and impermanence, interlocking circles for harmony and infinity, and chrysanthemums for nobility and rejuvenation. The carry case, with its black lacquered surface, prominently displays a full cherry tree in maki-e, signifying beauty and the fleeting nature of existence. This antique set shows signs of venerable age, including small chips, minor scratches, corner cracks, and restorations. The wooden box exhibits woodworm damage, scuffs, and cracks, while some metal fittings are missing or deformed with rust. Please refer to the photos. Dimensions: approx.
