Bell shrine - Copper, This is a small temple bell with carvings of a phoenix and a dragon - 1750-1800, 1800-1850

This is a small copper temple bell believed to have been made around 200 years ago. It features depictions of phoenixes and dragons. While the dragon may also resemble a lion, it is unclear exactly what animal it represents. However, similar carvings of phoenixes and dragons can be found on bronze basins from the same era that I have seen before. The intricate floral patterns at the bottom of the bell are also characteristic of that period. These can be considered symbols of an ancient era. Furthermore, the basin's creator is a famous late Edo-period metalworker named Murata Seimei, and I have seen many similar carvings on basins made by Murata Seimei. This temple bell was likely made sometime between the late Edo period (1761-1837). Considering its age, the condition is very good. I believe anyone looking for old temple bells will be very satisfied with it. Bonshō (梵鐘, Buddhist bells), also known as tsurigane (釣り鐘, hanging bells) or ōgane (大鐘, great bells) are large bells found in Buddhist temples throughout Japan, used to summon the monks to prayer and to demarcate periods of time. (From Wikipedia) A Bonshō (梵鐘) is a bell that hangs in the bell tower of a temple and is rung by striking it with a clapper. It is a Buddhist ritual instrument used in temples in East Asia, known for its heavy and resonant sound. Bonshō is also referred to as the "gathering bell (集会鐘, shūeishō)," and it is struck 30 minutes or 1 hour before the start of ceremonies or rituals as a signal for the congregation to assemble. Additionally, to welcome the new year with a fresh mindset by dispelling worldly desires, it is struck 108 times, representing the same number as the worldly desires. Due to its loud sound, Bonshō is also called "geishō" or "hōshō" in some cases. Width 11.2 cm Depth 11.3 cm Height 18.8 cm Weight 620 g Condition: Although it is in good condition considering its age, there are some deterioration due to age such as scratches, abrasions, dirt, and peeling. I have included many photos, so please take a look. Atention: The items listed for sale are all used collectibles. Please consider them to have signs of aging, such as stains, scratches, scuffs, tears, discoloration, fading, fraying, and changes in thread color. We will post as many photos as possible to make it easy to understand. As these are old items, we appreciate your understanding before making a purchase.
