Beutiful replica of the central part of the Milton shield, high quality bronze casting. The bronze wall plaque is in an antique wooden frame.
Elkington's most famous galvanoplasty, the so-called oval 'Milton Shield' reliefs depict scenes from Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost, published in 1667: the central circular panel shows the Archangel Raphael speaking to Adam and Eve about Lucifer, who has been driven out of the kingdom of heaven by Lucifer, who has rebelled against God, and the 'war in heaven'.
Made between 1920 and 1940.
No markings on the wall plaque.
A very rare collector's piece, with extraordinary detail.
Dimensions: Bronze plaque 24,5cm
