Ancient Roman Bronze Mouse

A superb roman bronze mouse.Its forepaws are stretched straight out in front. The head, slightly turned to the right, is highly individualised with a small pointed muzzle, incised eyes and prominent oval ears projecting diagonally backward. The small rodent is depicted sitting on its hind legs, shown in an alert position, as if to protect the spherical seed or small nut that it holds between its forepaws and which it is about to eat. The modelling of the body and legs is strong and detailed. Condition: Tail lost. Mineral deposits stronger in left side ( see pictures). Good contition. Dimensions: 2,40 x 4,00 cm. Provenance: French auction house. 2024. Formerly french private collection. Notes: The piece includes authenticity certificate. The piece is in process of obtaining spanish export license for the European Union. This process can take between 2 and 4 weeks. If the piece is sold outside the European Union a new export license will be requested by the seller. This process can take between 2 and 4 weeks.
