1900 NV Castell del Remey, Extra 1900's - J. Girona - Lleida - 3 Bottles (0.75L)

3 bottles of NV Castell del Remey Extra 1900s - J. Girona Winery Reserva. Stored in a private cellar up to today with very good storage conditions. This is one of the most legendary wines ever vinified in Spain. There is not much more information available about this wine. Very limited production was vinified in the course of the 1910's blending different vintages from 1905 to 1920. It was supposed to be bottled gradually in the course of the first half of the 20s. Marketed from 1932 to 1934. The production was extremely limited, just a few thousand bottles. It was so expensive for the Spanish market that it was hardly ever on sale in Spain itself. 90% cabernet sauvignon, 10% merlot. Pre-phylloxera vines pulled up in Médoc, from different Châteaux (cabernet) and a small part of merlot from Haut-Brion, in order to make a new plantation. Vines were acquired at the end of the 19th century (1898-1900) by the owners of the bodega, the Girona family. The winery was closed after the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and then faded away. Vinified and matured for 12 months in big wooden vats, without temperature control. Poured to french oak barrels and then aged for 6 to 8 years. Racked once every 6 months, using the traditional cask-to-cask method, and hand-bottled directly from the barrel. Not filtered.
