A Japanese (Kaga Province) Kutani-'yaki' teapot, Meiji (1868-1912), ca 1880, ca 14.5 cm. high (without handle), 11.5 cm. Ø and 15 cm. wide. With barrel-shaped body, s-shaped spout, inwardly doomed cover with venthole, the knob shaped as a rodent, slightly recessed bottom and wicker handle, decorated in overglaze iron red, pink, grey and gold with blossoming peach and peonies, non-leaking base crack (image #15).
