The front is adorned with gold decoration, while the back is covered with black lacquer. Hand-carved swirling patterns embellish the tablet. The front engraving reads "Shin'ajo Shinkyo Koji, Shinsoku Jozu Daishi, Spirit," and the back engraving states "Gentleman, 4th Day of the 4th Month, 7th Year of An'ei (1778); Lady, 8th Day of the 9th Month, 1st Year of Kyōwa (1801)." This spirit tablet likely commemorates an upper-class couple. During the Edo period, titles like "Inden-go" (院殿号) became standardized, with discriminatory differences based on ranks. High-ranking individuals were assigned "Inden-go," while titles like "Koji" or "Daishi" weren't used for lower social classes. "Inden-go" was reserved for royalty or high-ranking aristocrats.
