I am offering for auction an historically interesting mid 19th century watercolour of gravestones from the Peninsular War in the early 19th century. Sketched by artist George C Clark. Inscribed in detail verso. Shows the gravestone of Lt Col Richard Fletcher amongst others. Further research required. Offered with no reserve! The painting measures 22 x 14 cm. The frame is 32 x 26 cm. Condition of the paintings is fairly good. Please view all pics for accurate condition. The frame is well worn. Ready to hang. Further info: The Peninsular War represents one of the most significant periods in the development of the Corps of Royal Engineers and military engineering in the British Army. Lt Col Sir Richard Fletcher was, for most of the war, Wellington’s Commanding Royal Engineer and the Siege of San Sebastian his nemesis. The war was set to highlight various shortcomings in the provision of military engineering services.
