Friedrich Johann Justin Bertuch (30 September 1747 – 3 April 1822) was a German publisher and patron of the arts. He co-founded the Weimar Princely Free Drawing School with the painter Georg Melchior Kraus in 1776. He was the father of the writer and journalist Karl Bertuch. Between 1790 and 1830 Betruch printed the Bilderbuch für Kinder appeared in 12 volumes. An educational work, it appeared in monthly instalments and aimed to "spread the knowledge of the epochs out before children" with 1185 pages and 6000 illustrations. Here is Volume 3 "Insects" with Original Plates No. 14 - 21. So this is really one of the original "magazines", newly bound in heavy paper to protect the original pages and plates. The german text is always followed by the french text "au verso" On the photos you see every detail of text and vivid plates. The last four photographs have been taken without flash to give you an idea of the paper quality. This is a really rare occasion to get one of these famous childrens picture books as whole, original "magazine"
