Crafted in the Showa period, this exquisite piece captures the elegant simplicity of traditional Japanese art. The scroll showcases the graceful movement of the fish amidst underwater foliage, rendered with a delicate touch and attention to detail that brings a peaceful ambiance to any space. The artwork is signed by Reiho Nakamura, who started his career in Tokyo during the Taisho era and was known for his perseverance in the study of Nihonga, traditional Japanese painting. Despite financial struggles, he apprenticed under renowned artist Kawai Gyokudo and later on charted his path as an independent artist, contributing to advertising art while continuing his creative work. After the war, Nakamura founded the Reiho Studio and various art societies, ensuring a vibrant legacy through regular exhibitions. His signature and seal, attesting to authenticity, are prominently displayed on the lower right corner of the painting and inside the lid of the wooden box. Included in this auction is the original wooden storage box, bearing Nakamura's calligraphy, adding historical value and provenance to this collectible item. Scroll ends are made of resin.
