2014 Château Le Prieuré - Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé - 3 Bottles (0.75L)

Château Le Prieuré has a history dating back to 1696, although it was then known as Cru des Cordeliers. Since 2021, it has been owned by Les Terroirs de Suravenir, a French insurance company that also owns Château Calon-Ségur in Saint-Estèphe, Château Vray Croix de Gay in Pomerol, Château Siaurac in Lalande-de-Pomerol. Château Le Prieuré can be found on the right bank, in Saint-Émilion to be precise. The vineyards are a stone's throw from Château Trotte Vieille and Château Pavie Macquin. "The 2014 Le Prieure showed well from barrel and so it continues to do so now in bottle. It has a commendable, quite understated bouquet with blackberry, undergrowth and damp moss-like scents. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp and tensile tannin, well focused, not a powerful Saint Emilion or one that is driven by tons of fruit. This is more restrained but nicely detailed, touches of sea salt and seaweed lending character on the finish." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "This is quite a dry and tannic wine, but it has lovely fruit, and the tannins only become a bit dominant on the crisp, lemony finish. Give it time to open. Better in 2019." - James Suckling "Mild garnet. Bloody nose – very St-Émilion! Gentle, unforced, fresh and not a trace of excess. Very well judged for an appetising wine for relatively early drinking." - Jancis Robinson
