Jo. Christophori Wolfii - Curae Philologicae et Criticae - 1741

Full title: "Curae Philologicae et Criticae in SS. Apostolorum Jacobi Petri Judae et Joannis Epistolas Husjusque" Recent amateur half blue leather, with cream boards. Gilt title to front and spine. Recent blue end papers and owner's bookplate to the front end paper. This volume is in fact Volume 5 of a much larger work comprising the whole of the New Testament. This volume contains commentaries on the works of Peter, James, John and Jude, along with Revelation etc. There are several attractive initial and finial woodcuts to the work. The rebind is not a particularly attractive one. There is a little rubbing to the gilt of the spine, and a water mark / stain to the rear board. The end papers are a rather bright blue card. The text block itself is clean and tidy, with moderate darkening to it. Small ink stain to the base of the title page and first few pages. Along with Johann August Ernesti, Johann Christoph Wolf is credited with the beginning of critical philological exegesis of the New Testament. This work was originally published in 1725. [xii], 1-815, [19] pp. 24.5 x 20 cm.
