Jac. N. van Rossum, whose full name is Jacobus Willem van Rossum, was a Dutch painter born on February 1, 1881, in The Hague and passed away on March 15, 1963, in Rijswijk (province of Zuid Holland). He is recognized as a typical Hague painter, having lived and worked almost his entire life in The Hague until 1962 before moving to Rijswijk.
Van Rossum was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague1. His artistic oeuvre includes paintings, watercolors, drawings, and etchings. He specialized in traditional subjects painted in an Impressionist style, such as landscapes featuring farms and livestock, poultry near a homestead, river and forest scenes. Additionally, he painted some cityscapes and figure pieces. His works sometimes carry a humorous undertone.
Besides being a painter, van Rossum was also a skilled draftsman and etcher. His contributions to Dutch art are appreciated for their traditional themes and impressionistic execution.
