Founded in 1816 by the Heuäcker Brothers, the Thuringian porcelain manufacturer gained renown for its lithophanes, intricate pieces of unglazed porcelain with delicate engravings allowing light to pass through. Christian Gottfried Schierholz joined as a partner after one of the brothers passed away. The factory, known for its over 2,000 models, saw leadership transitions through generations, with Christian's sons Julius and Hugo taking over after his death in 1851. Ownership later passed to Julius's sons Max and Arthur. After WWII, the company was nationalized and renamed VEB Porzellan Manufaktur Plaue. Following German reunification, it regained its original name under Von Schierholz Porzellan Manufaktur Plaue G.m.b.H. In 1995, it became part of Königlich privilegierte Porzellanmanufaktur Tettau G.m.b.H.
