Original woodblock print triptych - Paper - Utagawa Fusatane (act. 1854-1888) - ' 'Kagoshima sesnō kibun'' 鹿児島記聞 Records of the Kagoshima Wars- Japan - 1877 (Meiji 10) Fusatane was now a minor ukiyo-e artist, but was a famous ukiyo-e artist for the people of the time (1865-1670). The signature is 'Ousai ousai fusatane hitsu ' 応需桜斎房種筆 This Ukiyo-e is three pieces connected to one piece. Good condition, backed, sheets secured together, minor stains. Paper is pasted on the back to increase strength. Utagawa Fusatane A disciple of Utagawa Sadafusa. His real surname is Murai and his first name is Shizuma.he took on Utagawa as a surname, and also used the surname Ousai(桜斎),Ichi shouwai(一笑斎),Ichi Hyōsai(一瓢斎),as an art name. He lives in Sotode Town. The drawing period was from Ansei to around 1897, and at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, in addition to landscape paintings of "Omi Hakkei", play paintings, Genji paintings, etc. He also draws nishiki-e, novels and newspaper illustrations for the Southwestern War, and also works on genre paintings.
