Lewis Carroll / Margaret W. Tarrant (ill.) - Alice in Wonderland - 1921

Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, with 48 coloured plates by Margaret W. Tarrant, published by Ward, Lock & Co., London & Melbourne, undated but c.1921, 332pp. with an additional 12-page publisher’s catalogue at the rear. Complete with original illustrated dust jacket, not price-clipped (price 6/- Net). First edition thus, from the Prince Charming Colour Books for Children series. Publisher's original green cloth, black titles to front cover and spine, the front cover also having an oval mounted color plate depicting Alice following a rabbit which is pulling a pocket watch from its jacket. The 48 colour illustrations by Tarrant include the pictorial end-papers at front and rear. Apart from some very slight shelf wear to the top and bottom of the spine, the covers are in fine condition. There is some light spotting to text pages, mainly along the upper margin, and more noticeably the last few pages of the book. There is a large spot on the upper edge of pages 175-178. The illustrations are not affected and are still bright and clean. Binding is holding firm, no inscriptions or bookplates. The dust jacket has wear and tear and some loss, mainly at the top and bottom of the spine and along the bottom edge, but remains attractive. Overall a very good copy of this classic of children’s literature. Size: 21 x 16 cm Weight: 700g See the photos for a better idea of details and condition
