2022 Quanta Terra, Cota 600 - Douro DOC - 6 Bottles (0.75L)

PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s). 2022 Quanta Terra Cota 600 Red 6 x 0.75L DESCRIPTION Both Celso Pereira and Jorge Alves could have the nickname ‘Quanta Terra’, if they weren’t the personification of the wine brand that this year celebrates its first 20 years of existence. More than riding on the back of a passionate passion on the part of each of those responsible, Quanta Terra began to take its first steps (and without knowing it) in the distant 90s, where the two main actors met while collaborating in the Department of Enology in the Transmontanas Cellars. They quickly developed a professional complicity that would allow them to create a solid foundation for Quanta Terra which, at the time, was just a mirage – or a sketch in a paper notebook, the reader chooses the analogy that best suits him in the context. Finally, they were faced with a decision: heads or tails. Two properties filled their dimensions. It came up heads… and tails, since the chosen Quinta – Quinta do Tralhão – is the face of this producer and the crown of the incredible wines produced there. With an average elevation of 215 m and southwest exposure, the Quinta had, at the time, 30 ha of which 12 ha were under vines that were more than two decades old. It looked perfect. But everything good has a price to pay. The vineyards were in a general state of abandonment, which required complete restructuring. The millennium was ending when, finally, Celso and Jorge established the company Quanta Terra, Lda. Visionaries, with a project of high potential, but without the financial means to carry out Tralhão, the two winemakers agreed on their intentions and proposed a share to Mário Joaquim, owner of the property that had belonged to his family for several generations. The die was cast. With lots of treats, manual harvesting and some experiments in between, the two project mentors put their notebooks aside and finalized their preparations to present to the market what had been brewing in their minds for a long time… And voilá, they launched their first wine, Quanta Terra Tinto 1999. The rest is history. WINEMAKERS: Celso Pereira & Jorge Alves. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 17.5 Points, Vinho Grandes Escolhas 87 Points, Revista de Vinhos WINE VARIETIES: Tinta Roriz & Tinta Amarela. VINIFICATION Produced from the Tinta Roriz and Tinta Amarela grape varieties, Cota 600 aged in new 500-liter French oak barrels. The red, “with a transparent texture”, to be consumed fresh (between 14 and 16 degrees), has below-average alcohol and caloric content and is proof of the “exceptionality” of wines that come from high-altitude vineyards, in this case, at elevation 600, on the Alijó plateau. TASTING NOTES Bright ruby color. Evident fruit, some raisins and mild spices. In the mouth it presents good structure, freshness, soft tannins and lots of harmony. It is tasty and juicy, with a medium finish, but persistence. SERVING This wine pairs with meats, cheeses and, in general, Mediterranean cuisine. Store in a horizontal position, in a cool and dry place, protected from light and temperature fluctuations. Serve at a temperature between 16ºC and 18ºC. Consume in moderation.
