Quinta do Noval, Noval Black - Douro - 6 Bottles (0.75L)

PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s). Quinta do Noval Black Reserve Port 6 x 0.75L DESCRIPTION The name of Quinta do Noval first appeared in land registries in 1715. The history of Quinta do Noval is marked by the action of visionaries: António José da Silva, a port shipper from Porto, acquired Quinta do Noval in 1894, after its devastation by phylloxera. He restored the property by replanting the vines. Luiz Vasconcelos Porto, his son-in-law, was the author of a vast programme of innovations. He transformed many of the narrow older terraces into broader terraces. This permitted a more efficient use of the land and a better exposition to the sun. Quinta do Noval made its name with the declaration of the 1931 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port, and the 1931 Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port. Because of the global depression and the enormous production and shipment of the 1927 Vintage, most shippers did not declare the 1931. This success established Quinta do Noval among the great names of Vintage Port in the English and American markets, a leading position in terms of reputation which is maintained today. Since 1993, Quinta do Noval is part of the international viticultural group of AXA Millésimes. WINEMAKER: António Agrellos. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 92 Points, Roy Hersh 90 Points, Robert Parker 17.5 Points, Vinho Grandes Escolhas 89-90 Points, VertdeVin 91 Points, Wine & Spirits Magazine 88 Points, Wine Spectator 89 Points, Tom Cannavan 16.5 Points, Jancis Robinson WINE VARIETIES: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão & Sousão. VINIFICATION 50% of the grapes were trodden by foot and fermented in the traditional "lagares" of the Quinta. The other 50% were vinified by pumping over in stainless steel vats with temperature controlled at 24°C. Noval Black is a blend of wines with an average of 2 to 3 years, aged in wooden and stainless steel vats to preserve its freshness. TASTING NOTES This wine gives a real taste of what a young, fresh, vigorous and fruity port can be like. I tis a wine of pleasure. Tawny colour. Rich and complex aroma, with notes of dry fruits. Velvety and full at taste, retaining a pleasant freshness. Long final. SERVING Noval Black Reserve is a new way to drink port, a new-age port destined to be enjoyed with dark chocolate or simply drunk chilled, used also as a cocktail ingredient. A clear expression of the Noval style, no ageing and no decanting necessary. No complications, just a great glass of Port. Serve at 7ºC – 8ºC.
