Both statues bear the signature of Makita Shūun on the back. Makita Shūun, a celebrated sculptor from Shizuoka Prefecture, was a disciple of the esteemed Mochizuki Hideaki. He created sculptures for temples and shrines across Japan and exhibited his works at the Mitsukoshi Main Store in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, to preserve traditional techniques. He received a commendation from the governor for his contributions. Amitabha Buddha is a celestial Buddha described in the scriptures of Mahayana Buddhism. He is known for his infinite light and boundless life, symbolizing compassion and wisdom. Devotees believe that reciting his name can lead to rebirth in his Pure Land, Sukhavati, a place free of suffering. Sacred Kannon Bodhisattva (Kwan Yin) is revered for listening to the cries of suffering beings, witnessing their distress, and saving them all. It is said that Kwan Yin can transform into thirty-three different forms to save sentient beings, with Sacred Kannon being considered the fundamental form.
