2016 Venissa, Dorona bianco - Veneto - 1 Magnum (1.5L)

Size: 1,5 L Region: Veneto - Venezia Grapes: Dorona Veneziata Aging: 18 months in steel The history of Venice in a sip. Well, yes, Venissa is a unique wine in all respects, first and foremost because it tells the story of Venetian winemaking history, dating back more than 2,500 years (even in St. Mark's Square there was a vineyard!), and of one of its native grape varieties, Dorona, which owes its name to the golden color of its wine, for centuries the object of pride of the local aristocracy. The result of a traditional production method involving long macerations on the grapes, Venissa is a white with the body and structure of a red, ready for a long evolution over time. Only a few years after the first vintage produced and sold, 2010, this wine already enjoys international fame thanks to its organoleptic uniqueness: the Dorona, which over the centuries has adapted to the salinity of the lagoon, and the high sodium content of the soil on the island of Mazzorbo give Venissa a surprising minerality. Iodine notes already appear on the nose, accompanied by hints of yellow-fleshed fruit later confirmed in the mouth, in a sensory, visual and taste-olfactory mix that is extremely consistent and engaging. To the touch then the sapidity comes into perfect balance with the softness and minerality, which results in a warm, enveloping sip that, supported by the tannic texture, is accompanied by hints of citrus and almond in a very long persistence. Also unique is the label: a gold leaf whose physiognomy changes depending on the vintage and is handcrafted by the last family to carry on an artisanal tradition imprinted in their very name, "Battiloro"! 80 magnums produced for the 2016 vintage.
