Ihei Kimura - street corner - 1981

street corner Ihei Kimura Nikkor Club /1981/Jpanese/210*300*10 Street Corner" is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Ihei Kimura (1901-1974). Ihei Kimura was a pioneer of Japanese photography, active alongside Ken Domon before World War II, and a stylish, downtown-born photographer who worked in a wide variety of fields. This book is a collection of snapshots taken in the streets by Kimura, who was also described as a "street corner photographer." The book includes photographs taken in Tokyo and other parts of Japan as well as in Europe and China. It was distributed to members of the Nikkor Club in 1981, seven years after Kimura's death, and was not for sale. Journalist Takeji Muno wrote in this book that the photographer "approaches the essence of reality from the people's side while naturally accepting it with the people's senses." In his postscript, Miki also noted that Kimura's "photographers are not even slightly aware of the presence of Ihei Kimura. For this reason, the subject exposes a more simple and honest way of life to Kimura-sensei's camera. This, I believe, is the secret of Ihei Kimura's photography.
