Carbonaceous meteorite CR2, NWA 15524. Do not reserve price. - 7.42 g - (1)

Northwest Africa 15524 (NWA 15524) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2022 Oct Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CR2) History: Reportedly found in 2021 in the area of In Salah, Algeria. Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Unequilibrated chondrite, consisting of metal-bearing chondrules, chondrule fragments, and few CAIs, embedded in a fine-grained brownish matrix (~40 vol% matrix). The chondrule population is dominated by porphyritic type I chondrules, some of which contain Ca-rich plagioclase. A few type II chondrules were observed. Many type I chondrules are (multi-)layered, showing igneous rims and layers of metal beads. Apparent chondrule sizes are mostly between 400 and 1000 µm; a few chondrules with sizes up to 3 mm are present. The interchondrule matrix contains clusters of magnetite (platelets and framboids), indicative of aqueous alteration processes. Classification: CR2 chondrite based on chondrule size and texture, mineral chemistry, and occurrence of magnetite clusters in the interchondrule matrix. Shock stage: C-S2 Weathering grade: W2 Classifier: K. Metzler, IfP. This lot has no reserve price and comes with its certificate of authenticity. Thanks for your interest.
