The medal “In Memory of the War of 1853-1856” is the highest approved award of the Russian Empire . Established to commemorate the end of the Crimean War (1853-1856) and on the occasion of the coronation of Alexander II .
Medals were minted from light or dark bronze. The diameter of the medals is 28 mm. The obverse depicts the monograms of Emperors Nicholas I and Alexander II . Above each monogram there was a large imperial crown , and above them was a shining all-seeing eye . Below, under the monograms, in a semicircle, along the side of the medal, the years of the Crimean War : “1853-1854-1855-1856.” On the reverse side there is a horizontal inscription in five lines, a quote from the Psalter [1] [22] [23] :
