Lestage was given by Louis XIII to an officer of his armies as a reward for great deeds at the siege of La Rochelle. Today it covers 18 ha in Montagne-Saint-Emilion. Philippe Raoux (Ch. d'Arsac in Margaux) acquired it in 2000. Château Lestage is a monovarietal of Merlot and is not inferior to many expensive Pomerol. The combination of location, climate and subsoil creates the ideal conditions for making a fantastic red Bordeaux wine with high-quality Merlot fruit, 'body' and a maturing potential of at least 10 years.
